MiSpace trains school administrators on modern instructional supervision
The Mindanao eLearning Space (MiSpace) was in a roll for 2008 as it attained its target to train all elementary and secondary school administrators from Davao City Division on modern instructional supervision.
A four-day training of trainers dubbed as “A Course on Modern Instructional Supervision: Enhancing Quality Teaching and Learning” was conducted on August 11-14, 2008 at Mergrande Ocean Resort. There were 32 elementary cluster head school administrators and eight secondary cluster head school administrators who attended the training of trainers. These trainers also trained the corresponding school administrators under their clusters.
This course is composed of six (6) modules:
1. Introduction to Instructional Supervision
2. Affirm Supervisory Roles and Functions
3. Demonstrate Instructional Competence
4. Assist in Developing Instructional Materials
5. Assess Teachers’ Performance
6. Design Supervisory Plan
From September 1, 2008 to October 10, 2008 in different venues, a total of 286 elementary school administrators and 65 secondary school administrators with 45 Head Teachers/Department Heads successfully completed the training during a combination of e-learning and face to face interactions.
Participants agreed that the training was timely and very relevant and the trainers organized the materials, managed the discussion effectively, used effective teaching methods, used training materials and audio-visuals appropriately, and discussed the topics clearly. Most of the participants expressed to the facilitators that the training is very useful in their current job and the materials presented were useful personally and professionally.
The School Heads signified their interest in attending future trainings on managerial skills, leadership, management of change, teaching strategies, performance audit, grievance procedure, testing and evaluation and Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) question construction.
“We thank BEAM and DepEd for coming up with this training for us school heads. The topics were very interesting and we are all impressed with the way the sessions were handled. It was non-traditional but still very effective,” shared Fe Bucsit from Tugbok District.
The training staff was composed of Danilo C. Galarion, Gilbert Importante, Val Quimpo, Ansylm Condrad Gamalong and Vince Joseph Venida.
